Unless you live in a round home we all have areas where two walls meet. This is typically wasted space since there isn't very much in the design world that will accommodate this area. That is why a corner book shelf is a great way to utilize it and still be attractive to the room.
It used to be that all you had to work with in this idea was a straight unit with no frills or accents. With the age of modern design this has been totally thrown out. Now there is a great assortment of pieces that will not only function well here but gives it a unique appearance at the same time.
Wall Book Shelves
One of the more popular models is the triangle shaped unit. Each level is reduced in size from the one below it until the top one is very small. These have become quite common in both contemporary homes and those who sway to the new age era of furnishings.
Another design that has made it's mark is the space saving shelving unit. This features staggered levels with each one alternating on one side or the other. This gives it a step appearance and breaks up the usual monotony with your eyes by diverting them from left to right as you ascend.
When looking for one of these units you will discover that they come in a variety of materials from metal to plastic, but the most common and most popular material, by far, is still wood. That's because there are so many types of wood and they can be used with virtually any design and décor. Oak and pine are typically found in casual settings and the more expensive and sometimes harder to locate varieties such as maple, teak and bamboo will be seen in more spectacular settings.
No matter which variety of corner book shelf you go with it will still serve the same purpose. And that is taking a space that would otherwise be of little or no use and transforming it into a viable section of a room.
